The Garden

We aim to celebrate the wealth of wildlife in Devon and encourage our guests to enjoy it and the Communal Garden is the ideal place...

Early risers might be lucky to spot hares, stoats, reptiles, toads and deer and for those of you who enjoy late evenings, owls, bats, hedgehogs or badgers might pay you a visit, as well as the dreaded fox. Beautiful but don't tell our rabbit Whispa!

A real nature reserve at your door step...

The Barns sit beautifully within 2.5 acres of gardens laid to lawn with flower and shrub borders, as well as wilder areas set aside to allow for as much biodiversity and water preservation as we can. A pretty spring fed stream flows down the garden to an attractive natural pond teaming with wildlife.

Also at the top of the garden is our veg patch which you're welcome to visit, and we also have rabbits and guinea pigs which our younger guests love to meet. These are close to our own house where we also have dogs so do come and check before you visit as we can pop them inside to make sure you don't get licked to death! The dogs are all very friendly if a little exuberant and we do endeavour to keep them from bothering guests!

There are picnic benches at your disposal for those lovely 'Al'fresco' summer evenings.

The central courtyard which Roseland, Week St Mary and Greenway can access from their front door is laid to cobbles and slate flagstones with raised borders full of decorative as well as seasonal edible plants including salads, herbs and strawberries which you can help yourselves to. If you'd like the fairy lights on to sit out in the evening do ask and we'll pop them on.
